Whereas Las Vegas got to end 2009 on a high note with the grand opening of the world's largest and most expensive gambling complex, Sin City's east coast cousin, Atlantic City, was just happy to see the year end. As the final 2009 revenue figures roll in, they paint a bleak picture for Atlantic City's casino operators.
While online gambling revenues continue to rise, traditional gambling destinations like Atlantic City have suffered as their beleaguered American patrons cut out unnecessary expenses like trips to the oceanside gambling mecca. As a result, Atlantic City's revenues have dropped for a devastating three years in a row. Gambling industry supporters that want to believe that things are getting better will have a hard time being optimistic about the future of AC's hotels and casinos, which posted their worst numbers ever in 2009.
