Liv Boeree won the PokerStars.com EPT event in San Remo, Italy, making her the third woman to win the EPT since the tour started in 2004. "I'm over the moon, absolutely over the moon," she said. "I can't believe I've won an EPT.” Liv won the biggest EPT event ever after beating Jakob Carlsson, Swedish poker pro – rising victorious above 1,240 players from 44 countries.
Liv’s investment in a €500 live satellite at the casino and her hard work have paid off, as she walked away from the €5,000+€300 tournament with €1,250,000 in winnings. She has also won a seat at the EPT Grand Final, scheduled for April 25th in Monte Carlo.
"This is exactly what I've been working for since I learned poker, winning a major event," she said. "The entire tournament I had such a weird feeling I was going to win it. I didn't tell anyone. I'm a scientist, so I try not to get weird like that. This is all just a big blur. I can't believe I have won. I really played my arse off."
Boeree is a 25 year old British astrophysics graduate that has been a host and TV presenter at the EPT in the past. She said she has always wanted to play in the tournament after she started playing poker four years ago after competing in a reality show about poker. How will she handle her big win? "I will invest the money wisely," she said. "I'm not going to just hit the craps table. I'm going to buy a nice car, and buy a house, maybe two houses. I'm also going to buy a new guitar and a new amp and make a lot of noise in my new house."
