So you want to win at online craps? A good craps strategy is key to optimizing your time at the table, but remember that the game is unpredictable, so there are going to be inevitable losses. Even when you win, the average haul from a good craps game session averages just 20% above what you bet, so don't plan on covering your kids’ college tuition in one night. Craps strategy goes beyond the bets you make; it’s also important to be sure you have a bankroll large enough to sustain several temporary losses.
Craps is a fast-paced game, so you can make a lot of money quickly when playing craps, but the bets add up and you can lose a lot of money just as easily. That's why you need to be calm and patient when applying your craps strategy. The craps odds will come back to you, especially if you stick with bets that have good odds and a low house advantage. If you want to win craps, then these are the bets that your craps strategy should favor. Some good bets with a low house edge are single roll bets on 6 or 8 when they are not the point.
While the effectiveness of any craps system is iffy, if you’re going to take the plunge and use a craps system, then stick with it; don't change your craps system in the middle of a craps game. You can also improve the effectiveness of your preferred system by combining it with a good craps strategy for betting. For example, the house edge is at a minimum when you begin with a pass bet followed by two or three come bets (if you're feeling lucky). This advice should be reversed for a don't pass bet and don't come bets. Pass and don't pass bets with free odds have only a 1.4% house edge, so sticking with these simple bets is a core part of a number of advanced craps strategies.
Every craps strategy should include free odds bets since they don't have a house edge, but most people playing craps don't know how to bet free odds to their advantage. After making a pass line bet and once the point is established, a player can make a free odds bet by putting extra chips below their pass line bet. If the point is rolled, you win both the pass line and free odds bets. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the lingo and bets, and of course, practice craps online or with a few friends to make sure that both you and your craps strategy are ready to handle the fast-paced action of a live craps game.
Multi-Roll Bets
Multi-roll bets are more complex than single-roll bets because it may take several rolls to determine the outcome of your wager, but a good craps strategy incorporates bets of every kind.
Hard way: A bet that the shooter will throw the same number on both dice resulting in a "hard" 4, 6, 8 or 10 before rolling a 7. For example, a roll of 3-3 is a “hard” 6.
Easy way: The shooter rolls a specific "easy" number adding up to 4, 6, 8 or 10 before they roll a 7. For example, a roll of 5-3 is an “easy” 8.
Place and Buy: A player can “place” or “buy” any number from 4 through 10, excluding 7 and the current point. He places his bet in the "come” area and tells the dealer that he wants to “place” or “buy” that number. Both of these types of wagers predict that the number called will be rolled before the point. The fundamental difference between these bets is the payoff. Place bets have worse craps odds than a buy bet's true odds, but most casinos charge a 5% commission on buy bets.
Lay bet: This is the opposite of place and buy bets. The player is betting that a 7 will show before the number that he "lays." Lay bets have the same craps odds as buy bets and also require that the player pay a commission.
Fire bet: If the shooter hasn’t started the next round, and a player is feeling really lucky, he can call a “fire” bet. This bet predicts that the shooter will roll four, five or even six different points after a point is established. The payoff is 25 to 1 for four, 250 to 1 for five and 1,000 to 1 for six! If you want to win craps in a big way, this bet's high payout makes it appealing, but the house edge can be up to 25%. In other words, use caution when calling a fire bet or you'll end up losing what you've gained (and then some).
